Here is an interesting story from NPR this morning, based on a survey of some 35,000 Americans.

"Most Americans Aren't Dogmatic About Faith.

A survey of Americans about their religious beliefs finds many of them are highly religious. But most aren't dogmatic about their faith. The survey was conducted by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. Co-host Ari Shapiro talks to Greg Smith, one of the survey's lead authors and a research fellow at the Pew Forum."
